Convert 3GP to MP4

Phones before smartphones, and early Android phones, saved video as 3GP: small, low-resolution files that many modern apps refuse. Convert them to MP4 to keep and share those old clips.

  • Never uploaded
  • No size limit
  • No watermark
  • Free

Quick answer: To convert 3GP to MP4, drop the file into the tool at the top of this page and press "Convert to MP4". iLoveAudioVideo does the work in your browser, so the file is never uploaded. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

How it works

  1. Drop your videoThe file is read on your computer, never uploaded.
  2. ConvertMany videos convert in seconds with no quality loss; the rest are converted at high quality.
  3. Download the MP4Plays on Windows, Android, iPhone, Mac and every website.

Why 3GP files will not open

3GP was made for the small screens and slow networks of the 2000s. The video inside often uses formats that browsers, iPhones and editing apps dropped long ago. The converter re-encodes it to an MP4 that plays everywhere, at the original size.

Getting the files off an old phone

Connect the phone by USB, or take out its memory card, and look in folders named DCIM, Videos or My Videos. Copy the .3gp files to your computer first, then convert them here several at once.

Why your video never leaves your computer

Online video tools upload your file to their servers, process it there, and send it back. That is slow for big videos and costs them money for every minute, so free plans cap your file size or add watermarks, and your video sits on someone else's computer.

Here your own computer does the work, inside this tab. Nothing is uploaded, so there is nothing to cap: no file size limit, no daily limit and no watermark.

Questions

Will the video look better as MP4?

It looks the same: converting cannot add detail the phone did not record. It will play in many more places.

Can I convert many clips at once?

Yes. Choose or drop them together; they are converted one after another and download one by one or as a ZIP.

Is it really free?

Yes. Your computer does the work, so a video costs us nothing to process. No account, no watermark, no limits.

Is my video uploaded?

No. It is processed inside this browser tab and saved straight back to your computer.

Which browsers work?

Recent Chrome, Edge and Safari on a computer. Chrome and Edge are fastest on most machines. Phones work for short videos.

How long does it take?

In Chrome, a one-minute 1080p video took 13–19 seconds on the laptops we tested and about 40 seconds on a computer without a graphics chip. Safari can be slower.

Can I close the tab while it works?

Keep the tab open and in front until it finishes. Browsers slow down background tabs.
