Quick answer: To convert MP4 to WAV, drop the MP4 into the tool at the top of this page and press "Convert to WAV". The sound is saved as a standard 16-bit WAV file, with the same sample rate and channels as the video. It happens in your browser, so the video is never uploaded. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Who needs WAV from a video
Audio editors and recording apps open WAV without fuss, and some transcription and voice services ask for it. A WAV also never loses anything again when you edit and save it, which MP3 does. If you only want a small file to listen to, the MP4 to MP3 page is the better choice.
How big the WAV gets
WAV stores the sound uncompressed. We measured one minute of stereo sound taken from a 720p MP4: the WAV was 10.6 MB, while the whole video was 32 MB. A one-hour meeting becomes a WAV of about 635 MB, so check the free space on your disk first.
Do you need an AI tool to get the audio out of a video?
No. Taking the sound out of a video is a fixed step, not a guess, so no AI is involved. Many online converters upload your video to a server first; this one runs on your computer and the file stays there.

Why your video never leaves your computer

Questions
Will the WAV sound better than the MP4?
No. It holds the same sound the video had, unpacked. You gain a file that editors open directly.

Which videos work?

Is my video uploaded?
No. It is processed inside this browser tab and saved straight back to your computer.
