Convert WAV to MP3
WAV recordings are huge: about 10 MB for every minute. As an MP3 the same minute is about 1.4 MB, small enough to email or send in a chat.

Quick answer: To convert WAV to MP3, drop the file into the tool at the top of this page and press "Convert to MP3". iLoveAudioVideo does the work in your browser, so the file is never uploaded. It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no file size limit.

How it works
- Drop your audio fileM4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG and more, any length. It stays on your computer.
- Pick the quality"Very good" suits speech and most music; "Best" for music you care about.
- Download the MP3Plays on every phone, computer, car stereo and audio editor.
How much smaller
| Length | WAV | MP3 "Good" | MP3 "Very good" | MP3 "Best" |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 minute | 10.6 MB | 1 MB | 1.4 MB | 2.4 MB |
| 10 minutes | 106 MB | 9.6 MB | 14 MB | 24 MB |
| 1 hour | 635 MB | 58 MB | 86 MB | 144 MB |
WAV sizes are for CD quality (44.1 kHz, 16-bit stereo). Recorders that save at 48 kHz or 24-bit make even larger WAVs; the MP3 sizes stay the same.
Keep the WAV if you will edit
An MP3 is for listening and sharing. If you plan to edit, mix or master the recording, keep the WAV as your original and make MP3s from it when you need them.

Why your audio never leaves your computer
Online converters upload your file to their servers, convert it there and send it back. That is slow for long recordings, so free plans cap the length or the number of files, and your recording sits on someone else's computer.
Here your own computer does the work, inside this tab. Nothing is uploaded, so there is nothing to cap: no length limit, no daily limit and no sign-up.
Questions
Does it work with 24-bit and 32-bit WAV files?
Yes. Recorders and music software often save those; they convert the same way.
Is there a length limit?
No. In our tests a one-hour, 635 MB WAV became an MP3 in about a minute, with nothing uploaded.
Which quality should I pick?
"Very good" for speech and most music. "Best" for music you care about. "Good" for the smallest voice recordings.
Can I convert several files at once?
Yes. Choose or drop several files together. They are converted one after another with the same settings, and you can download each one or all of them in one ZIP.
Is it really free?
Yes. Your computer does the work, so a file costs us nothing to convert. No account and no limits.
Is my file uploaded?
No. It is converted inside this browser tab and saved straight back to your computer.
Which browsers work?
Recent Chrome, Edge and Safari on a computer.
Can I use a video file?
Yes. Drop a video and you get its sound.
