How long a video fits in 16 MB
Picture sizes the tool picks for a 1080p phone video (≈ means about; soft means visibly blurry):
| Length | With sound | No sound |
|---|---|---|
| 15 sec | 1080p | 1080p |
| 30 sec | ≈960p | ≈980p |
| 1 min | ≈670p | ≈690p |
| 2 min | ≈460p | ≈490p |
| 3 min | ≈370p | ≈400p |
| 5 min | ≈280p, soft | ≈310p, soft |
| 10 min | ≈180p, soft | ≈210p, soft |
Up to about three minutes looks fine on a phone. Beyond that, trim the video to the part that matters, or pick a bigger size if the destination allows it.
Where 16 MB comes from
WhatsApp's help pages name 16 MB as the video size that works on every phone and computer, and many school and job upload forms use the same number. The WhatsApp page explains the other WhatsApp limits.

Why your video never leaves your computer
Online video tools upload your file to their servers, process it there, and send it back. That is slow for big videos and costs them money for every minute, so free plans cap your file size or add watermarks, and your video sits on someone else's computer.
Here your own computer does the work, inside this tab. Nothing is uploaded, so there is nothing to cap: no file size limit, no daily limit and no watermark.
Questions
Can a 10-minute video fit in 16 MB?
It fits, but at about 180p it looks blurry. Trim it to a shorter part, or use 25 MB or more if you can.
Is my video uploaded?
No. It is compressed inside your browser and saved straight back to your computer.
Is it really free?
Yes. Your computer does the work, so a video costs us nothing to process. No account, no watermark, no limits.

Can I close the tab while it works?
