Reverse a video online

Play a clip backwards, picture and sound, from the last moment to the first. It is made on your own computer, so the video is never uploaded.

Quick answer: To reverse a video, drop it into the tool at the top of this page and press "Reverse video". The picture and the sound both play backwards. A clip can be up to 5 minutes long; for a longer video, set the start and end of the part you want first. It happens in your browser, so the video is never uploaded. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

How it works

  1. Drop your videoMP4, MOV, WEBM or MKV. It stays on your computer.
  2. Pick the part, if it is longUp to 5 minutes goes in as it is. For a longer video, play it, pause where the part starts or ends and press "Set to current", or type the times.
  3. Reverse and downloadYou get an MP4 that plays backwards, with the sound reversed too.

Why a clip can be 5 minutes at most

Playing a clip backwards means the last picture has to come first, so the clip must be read from its end before the first reversed picture can be written. Your computer does that in short pieces and joins them last to first, and about 5 minutes is the most it handles in one go. The result is made again from the pictures, so it takes longer than the clip itself: about one and a half times its length on our older laptop.

Pictures bigger than 1080p are brought down to 1080p, which is what most screens show anyway.

Reversing one part of a long video

You rarely need the whole video backwards. Say a 12-minute screen recording has a 20-second moment you want in reverse: set the start to 3:10 and the end to 3:30, and only that part is reversed and saved. If you also want the normal version of that part, cut it first with the video trimmer.

What the sound does

The sound is reversed together with the picture, so speech turns into the strange mumble of backwards speech. If you only want the sound reversed, use reverse audio. If you want the picture reversed with a different sound, reverse the video, then swap the sound with replace the audio in a video.

Forward, then back again

A clip that plays forward and then backwards makes a simple back-and-forth loop. Reverse your clip here, then join the original and the reversed copy with merge videos.

Why your video never leaves your computer

Your video is processed by your own computer, inside this tab, and never uploaded. That is why there is no size limit and no watermark. How it works.

Questions

Does the sound play backwards too?

Yes, the picture and the sound are both reversed. To reverse only the sound, use the reverse audio page.

Can I reverse a video longer than 5 minutes?

Yes, one part at a time. Set the start and end of a part of up to 5 minutes and reverse it. To put several reversed parts together, reverse them one by one and join them with merge videos, last part first.

Why does it take longer than the clip?

Because the clip is read from the end, in pieces, and the pictures are made again afterwards. On our older laptop a one-minute clip took about a minute and a half.

Is my video uploaded?

No. It is processed inside this browser tab and saved straight back to your computer.
