Convert FLAC to MP3

FLAC keeps every detail of a recording, but many car stereos, older players and apps do not play it. Make an MP3 copy for those, and keep the FLAC as your master.

Quick answer: To convert FLAC to MP3, drop the file into the tool at the top of this page and press "Convert to MP3". iLoveAudioVideo does the work in your browser, so the file is never uploaded. It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no file size limit.

How it works

  1. Drop your audio fileM4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG and more, any length. It stays on your computer.
  2. Pick the quality"Very good" suits speech and most music; "Best" for music you care about.
  3. Download the MP3Plays on every phone, computer, car stereo and audio editor.

Pick "Best" for music

FLAC is lossless, so the MP3 you make from it is as good as an MP3 can be. For music, pick "Best": it keeps the most detail, at about 2.4 MB per minute, so a four-minute song comes to about 10 MB. "Very good" suits audiobooks and speech.

Hi-res files work too

Downloads sold as hi-res, such as 24-bit at 96 kHz, convert the same way. The MP3 plays everywhere, though MP3 itself cannot carry hi-res detail.

Why your audio never leaves your computer

Online converters upload your file to their servers, convert it there and send it back. That is slow for long recordings, so free plans cap the length or the number of files, and your recording sits on someone else's computer.

Here your own computer does the work, inside this tab. Nothing is uploaded, so there is nothing to cap: no length limit, no daily limit and no sign-up.

Questions

Can I convert a whole album at once?

Yes. Choose or drop all the tracks together. They are converted one after another, a few seconds each, and you can download them one by one or as one ZIP.

Should I delete the FLAC afterwards?

Keep it. You can always make a new MP3 from a FLAC, but never get the FLAC back from an MP3.

Does the file get uploaded?

No. It is converted inside this browser tab and saved straight back to your computer.

Recent Chrome, Edge and Safari on a computer.
