Quick answer: To convert HEVC to MP4, drop the video into the tool at the top of this page and press "Convert to MP4". You get an MP4 in the most widely supported form, which plays on Windows, Android, iPhone, Mac and most TVs. It happens in your browser, so the video is never uploaded. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

What HEVC is, and where it comes from
HEVC is a way of saving video in smaller files. iPhones record it when Settings, Camera, Formats is on High Efficiency. The file is usually a .mov.
Why it will not play
Many Windows PCs play HEVC only after you add Microsoft's HEVC extension from the Microsoft Store, which is paid on most PCs. Older TVs and some editors also refuse it. An MP4 in the usual form plays everywhere.
How long it takes
One minute of 720p HEVC took 8 seconds on our older laptop and came out about a quarter smaller. Videos with HDR colour are adjusted so they do not look washed out. On Windows PCs without hardware help, expect it to be slower. See also MOV won't play on Windows.
Measured, not promised
Measured on 21 Oct 2026 in Chrome on a 2019 Intel MacBook (an older laptop) with an 8-bit HEVC clip. Phone videos in HDR and long files take longer. More results.
Why your video never leaves your computer
Your video is processed by your own computer, inside this tab, and never uploaded. That is why there is no size limit and no watermark. How it works.
Questions
Will it look the same?
It is converted at high quality, so the difference is very hard to see.
Can I stop my iPhone recording HEVC?
Yes: Settings, Camera, Formats, Most Compatible. Files get larger.
Can I convert several files at once?
Yes. Choose or drop several files together. They are converted one after another with the same settings, and you can download each one or all of them in one ZIP.
