Convert WAV to M4A

A WAV recording is large. Save it as an M4A on your own computer, without uploading it.

  • Never uploaded
  • No size limit
  • No sign-up
  • Free

Quick answer: To convert WAV to M4A, drop the WAV file into the tool at the top of this page and press "Convert to M4A". It happens in your browser, so the file is never uploaded. It is free, with no sign-up and no file size limit. The M4A is much smaller than the WAV, but it is compressed, so keep the WAV if you will edit the recording again.

How it works

  1. Drop your audio fileMP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG and more. It stays on your computer.
  2. ConvertYour sound is saved as an M4A, or copied as it is where it already fits.
  3. Download the M4APlays in Apple Music, on iPhones and in most players.

A much smaller file

Our 20-second WAV sample became a 322 KB M4A in 1 second. WAV stores sound uncompressed, so the saving is large for any recording.

Keep the WAV for editing

An M4A is compressed, so some detail is lost and editing and saving again loses a little more. Keep the WAV as your master and use the M4A for sharing and listening. For the most widely played small file, use WAV to MP3 instead.
