Quick answer: To change the speed of a video, drop it into the tool at the top of this page, pick a speed from 0.25× (slow motion) to 4× (fast) and press "Change speed". The sound can stay in step at the same voice pitch, or be removed. It happens in your browser, so the video is never uploaded. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Updated

How it works

  1. Drop your videoMP4, MOV, WEBM or MKV. It stays on your computer.
  2. Pick the speedChoose 0.25× to 4×, or type your own. You see the new length before you start.
  3. Change and downloadKeep the sound in step, or tick the box to remove it.

How long the clip becomes

A speed of 2× halves the length; 0.5× doubles it. For a one-minute clip:

SpeedNew length
0.25×4 min
0.5×2 min
1.5×40 s
2×30 s
3×20 s
4×15 s

Slow motion: what to expect

Slowing a normal video repeats pictures to stretch it, so it can look a little steppy. It does not add detail that was never recorded. Footage shot at a high frame rate has more pictures per second, so it slows down more smoothly.

What happens to the sound

With "Keep the sound" ticked, the sound is sped up or slowed down with the picture, but voices keep their pitch, so a clip at 2× does not sound like a chipmunk. Untick it to remove the sound, which suits a timelapse or a slow-motion clip where a slowed-down voice would only get in the way. A video with no sound is changed as it is.

Why your video never leaves your computer

Your video is processed by your own computer, inside this tab, and never uploaded. That is why there is no size limit and no watermark. How it works.

Questions

Is the sound sped up too?

Yes, unless you untick it. It stays in step with the picture, with the same voice pitch.

How slow can I make a video?

A quarter of the speed (0.25×), so a one-minute clip becomes four minutes.

Does slow motion make the video smoother?

No. It repeats pictures to stretch the clip; it does not add detail.

Is my video uploaded?

No. It is processed inside this browser tab and saved straight back to your computer.
