Convert WAV to FLAC

FLAC keeps every bit of a WAV and stores it in a smaller file. Convert on your own computer, without uploading.

  • Never uploaded
  • No size limit
  • No sign-up
  • Free

Quick answer: To convert WAV to FLAC, drop the WAV file into the tool at the top of this page and press "Convert to FLAC". The FLAC holds exactly the same sound as the WAV in a smaller file. It happens in your browser, so the file is never uploaded. It is free, with no sign-up and no file size limit.

Nothing is lost

We converted two one-minute WAV files to FLAC and decoded them again: the sound was identical to the original, bit for bit.

How much smaller it gets

One minute ofWAVFLAC
Spoken voice10.6 MB2.0 MB
Loud, busy music-like mix10.7 MB4.0 MB

Quiet or simple sound shrinks most; dense music shrinks less. These two are the extremes we tried, not a promise for your file.

FLAC from an MP3 is not better

If your WAV was made from an MP3, a FLAC made from it holds that same MP3 sound. It will be bigger than the MP3 and no better. For small files use WAV to MP3.

Why your audio never leaves your computer

Your audio is converted by your own computer, inside this tab, and never uploaded. That is why there is no length limit and no sign-up. How it works.

Questions

Can I convert several files at once?

Can I use a video file?

Yes. Drop a video and you get its sound.
