Compress a video to under 50 MB

50 MB is roomy: a one-minute 1080p clip keeps its full picture, and a five-minute video still comes out at about 520p.

  • Never uploaded
  • No size limit
  • No watermark
  • Free

Quick answer: To compress a video to under 50 MB, drop the file into the tool at the top of this page and press "Compress video". iLoveAudioVideo does the work in your browser, so the file is never uploaded. It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no file size limit.

For Discord Nitro Basic

Nitro Basic raises Discord's upload limit to 50 MB, according to Discord's File Attachments FAQ. This page aims for exactly that. Without Nitro, the limit is 20 MB: use the Discord compressor instead.

No limit to hit? Try "Smaller, same look"

If you only want a smaller file and no site is asking for 50 MB, the main compressor has a mode that keeps the video looking the same and usually makes phone videos 50–80% smaller.

Why your video never leaves your computer

Online video tools upload your file to their servers, process it there, and send it back. That is slow for big videos and costs them money for every minute, so free plans cap your file size or add watermarks, and your video sits on someone else's computer.

Here your own computer does the work, inside this tab. Nothing is uploaded, so there is nothing to cap: no file size limit, no daily limit and no watermark.

Questions

Will my 1080p video stay 1080p?

Up to about 75 seconds, yes; a 90-second clip comes out at about 990p. Longer videos are brought down to a smaller picture so they fit; the tool shows you the size before you start.

Can I compress a 2 GB video to 50 MB?

Yes. There is no limit on the size of the original; the largest we tested was a 2.35 GB 4K film. Its length decides how sharp the 50 MB result is.

Is it really free?

Yes. Your computer does the work, so a video costs us nothing to process. No account, no watermark, no limits.

Is my video uploaded?

No. It is processed inside this browser tab and saved straight back to your computer.

Which browsers work?

Recent Chrome, Edge and Safari on a computer. Chrome and Edge are fastest on most machines. Phones work for short videos.

How long does it take?

In Chrome, a one-minute 1080p video took 13–19 seconds on the laptops we tested and about 40 seconds on a computer without a graphics chip. Safari can be slower.

Can I close the tab while it works?

Keep the tab open and in front until it finishes. Browsers slow down background tabs.
