Can ChatGPT transcribe audio?
Yes, on a paid plan. ChatGPT Plus and other paid plans accept audio files up to 512 MB and can write out what is said. The Free plan cannot upload audio, and video files are refused. ChatGPT's audio formats are WAV, MP3, OGG, FLAC, AAC, M4A, PCM and audio-only MP4 or WEBM, per OpenAI's help page, checked 21 October 2026. OpenAI also notes that transcripts may contain errors and that accuracy varies by language.
Can Claude transcribe audio?
No. Claude accepts documents (PDF, DOCX, TXT and similar) and images, but audio files are not on its list of supported uploads (Claude Help Center, checked 21 October 2026).
The way round it: transcribe the recording on this page, then paste the text into Claude, or download the TXT and attach it. Claude works well on long transcripts.

Is ChatGPT's transcription free?
No. Uploading audio files needs a paid ChatGPT plan. The Free plan can't upload audio. This page is free.
Can ChatGPT transcribe a video?
Not directly. ChatGPT refuses MP4 and WEBM files that contain video. Convert the video to MP3 first, or drop the video on this page, which takes MP4 and MOV as they are.
Is this the same Whisper that ChatGPT uses?
This page runs OpenAI's open-source Whisper models. OpenAI does not say which model ChatGPT uses for audio files.
Is my recording uploaded here?
