MP4 and MOV usually hold the same video
The two are close relatives: MOV is Apple's QuickTime file type and MP4 grew out of it. A typical MP4 and a MOV can hold the identical picture and sound. Our one-minute MP4 was 32.2 MB, and the MOV 32.2 MB. If your program already opens your MP4, you may not need MOV at all. See MP4 vs MOV.
When you actually need MOV
A form, an editing project or an older Mac program may accept only MOV. Then convert here.
Renaming is not converting
Changing .mp4 to .mov in the file name changes only the label. Programs that need a real MOV may still reject the file. This tool builds a proper MOV.
