Convert M4V to MP4

M4V is a video file that many players and websites do not recognise. Convert it to a plain MP4 on your own computer, without uploading it.

  • Never uploaded
  • No size limit
  • No watermark
  • Free

Quick answer: To convert M4V to MP4, drop the M4V file into the tool at the top of this page and press "Convert to MP4". Where it can, the tool only repackages the file, so the picture and sound stay the same. It happens in your browser, so the video is never uploaded. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark. Files bought from iTunes are copy-protected and will not open.

How it works

  1. Drop your videoThe file is read on your computer, never uploaded.
  2. ConvertMany videos convert in seconds with no quality loss; the rest are converted at high quality.
  3. Download the MP4Plays on Windows, Android, iPhone, Mac and every website.

Usually only a new wrapper

An M4V is very close to an MP4. Often the picture and sound can be moved into an MP4 as they are, which took 1 second for our 20-second sample. When that is not possible, the video is converted at high quality instead, which takes longer.

Files bought from iTunes will not open

Movies and shows bought or rented from iTunes are copy-protected. The tool cannot open them, and no honest converter can. Videos you made or exported yourself are not protected, and those work.

Why the name still matters

Renaming .m4v to .mp4 sometimes works, but not always, and programs that are strict about the file may refuse it. This tool makes a real MP4.

Why your video never leaves your computer

Your video is processed by your own computer, inside this tab, and never uploaded. That is why there is no size limit and no watermark. How it works.

Questions

Will it lose quality?

A file that can be repackaged keeps the same picture and sound. Otherwise it is converted at high quality.

Can I convert several M4V files?

Yes. Drop them together and download each one, or all of them in one ZIP.

Can I convert several files at once?

Yes. Choose or drop several files together. They are converted one after another with the same settings, and you can download each one or all of them in one ZIP.

Is my video uploaded?

No. It is processed inside this browser tab and saved straight back to your computer.
