Convert AAC to MP3

Some players and car stereos will not open a .aac file. Convert it to MP3 on your own computer, without uploading it.

  • Never uploaded
  • No size limit
  • No sign-up
  • Free

Quick answer: To convert AAC to MP3, drop the .aac file into the tool at the top of this page and press "Convert to MP3". You get an MP3 that plays on any phone, computer or car stereo. It happens in your browser, so the file is never uploaded. It is free, with no sign-up and no file size limit.

How it works

  1. Drop your audio fileM4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG and more, any length. It stays on your computer.
  2. Pick the quality"Very good" suits speech and most music; "Best" for music you care about.
  3. Download the MP3Plays on every phone, computer, car stereo and audio editor.

Where .aac files come from

Recorders, some phones, radio and stream recordings and downloaded audio are saved as plain .aac files. If your file ends in .m4a instead, use M4A to MP3; for how the two formats compare, see AAC vs MP3.

Size and quality

AAC and MP3 are both compressed, so converting cannot add detail. Our one-minute .aac recording was 0.74 MB and its MP3 at "Very good" 1.4 MB. Pick "Best" for music.
